ďI liked Obamaís speech today,Ē seems to be a popular phrase among local teenagers. While we all are undoubtedly aware of the sensation now-president Obama has caused around the nation, how much do Los Angeles area teenagers really care? It seems that some are caught up in the excitement generated by his election, but others seem dazed, or worse, apathetic. Sure, apathy is what teens are stereotypically known for, but towards the president of the United States? We canít just accept this historic election as the norm. We, as a generation, are responsible for continuing the great successes of the modern era. My message to teenagers out there: donít take anything for granted, celebrate success, and look at the world with a broader perspective. January 20, 2009 will be a date to remember, a date to tell your kids about. Make sure you appreciate it for its full worth; celebrate our new administration. My message to those who realized the inaugurationís significance from the start or will be involved and interested in events in the future: this will be your nation.
