Lacrosse Canceled at Windward

Windward is left without one of its oldest sports teams after the lack of interest forced the lacrosse team to surrender its sticks. Due to declining student interest in the sport, the administration decided that it was unwise and unsafe to send another team out this year, as there weren’t enough students to adequately fill the field. Both the middle and high school teams have been canceled. It was believed that the lack of players would force the few remaining players into an unsafe position against the much bigger teams that they would face. These teams are mostly comprised of football players from schools such as Loyola and Harvard-Westlake.

Last season, the Windward high school lacrosse team had only one win, which came against Chadwick, the only school with a similar amount of players last year. Furthermore, the middle school team had not won a game in three years. The players are saddened by this decision, but many are continuing to play on other out of school teams during the fall, keeping their skills sharp in case there are enough players to field a team in the years ahead.
